Beach holiday packing list for families

A beach holiday is mostly sun protection, swimwear and the small things that make a day on the sand easier. This list covers the family, with extras for small children.

Tips

  • Pack sun cream in your hand luggage only if each bottle is under 100ml, or buy it there.
  • A pop-up shade is worth taking for babies and very small children.
  • Rinse swimwear and let it dry before packing it back.
  • Pack things in the order of the first day: swimwear and sun cream at the top.

Common questions

How much sun cream should I take?

Plan on roughly a 200ml bottle for each person for a week of sun, and buy more at your destination if needed.

What do babies wear at the beach?

A sun hat, light long-sleeved clothing, and shade. Many families use UV-protective suits. Keep babies out of the strongest midday sun.

What should be in a beach bag?

Water, snacks, towels, sun cream, hats, wipes, a change of clothes and a bag for the wet ones.
